Abstract

Large deformations of buckled elasto-plastic flexible cantilever bars of variable stiffness with rectangular and circular cross-sections are considered. An improved Euler method is used to solve the resulting first-order, nonlinear differential equations. Deflections at the free end, and hence the values of critical loads are presented for the tapered bars.
