Abstract

In 2001 Ironbridge Archaeology (the archaeology unit of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust) inaugurated the Coalbrookdale Historical Archaeology Research and Training (CHART) programme to examine elements of the archaeology of Coalbrookdale that had previously been overlooked. This has now developed into an international programme of field excavation, landscape research, community outreach and university teaching, and is developing different approaches to the archaeology of industrialisation. This paper presents an interim report on work so far, and outlines directions which the project is beginning to take as it matures.
