Abstract

A DC-AC inverter containing no magnetic devices is proposed. The energy is transferred from an unregulated line to a regulated sinusoidal output through a controlled switched-capacitor (SC) circuit. The SC circuit is formed by two symmetrical sub-circuits, which operate in anti-phase in each half-cycle of a switching period: when one of them is in the charging state, the other one is in the discharging state. A typical period of the output sinusoid is realized in 64 steps. Any switching cycle in a step is formed by four phases, the even phases playing a regulation role. A duty-cycle control is used. The inverter exhibits small size, low weight, good efficiency, clean AC output, good regulation capability with respect to large changes in line or load. >
