Abstract

Future spacecrafts require onboard electronics with ever-more radiation hardness levels. This should be achieved without using metal shields to keep low size and weight. This brief presents an Inductorless DC/DC converter able to convert a wide input voltage range, from 6 V to 60 V, in two points of load at 5 V and 1.65 V. Thanks to an innovative insulating stage, based on electrostatic coupling architecture, the DC/DC converter is able to protect the supplied loads from overvoltages in the power buses and errors, due to Single Event Effects, in the driving algorithm. In addition, avoiding the use of inductors and transformers, it reduces the electromagnetic interference generated by classic switching mode power supplier. The whole converter is fabricated in 0.35 $\mu \text{m}$ HV-CMOS technology and electrically characterized by experimental measurements. Specific tests for space compliance were performed as Total Ionization Dose and Single Event Effect tests, highlighting the feasibility use of the proposed converter for space applications.
