Abstract

This paper presents the process to build an equivalent magnetic circuit (EMC) model for flux intensifying permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor (FI-PMa-SynRM) so that the inductances can be calculated. The EMC model of the FI-PMa-SynRM is composed of the models for the stator and rotor cores, air-gap, and flux barriers, and it is then transformed to d- and q-axis frame. This conducts the calculation of d- and q-axis inductances. In addition, an interactive operation is applied to achieve the representative permeability and operational points of electrical steels so that more accurate values are obtained. The concordance of the calculated and simulated values shows the accuracy of the developed EMC model. The experiment is also employed to verify the feasibility of the EMC model.
