Abstract
Indo-Iranian is a branch of the Indo-European language family. The Indo-Aryan and Iranian languages share a great number of features that set them apart from other Indo-European languages and point to a period of common development at a prehistoric date. Historical and comparative linguistic methods employing evidence from Vedic Sanskrit, Avestan, Old Persian, and other early attested Indo-European languages are used to reconstruct this Indo-Iranian ancestor.
