Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper raises important questions regarding (mis)appropriation and voice, such as who speaks on whose behalf concerning representations of Indigeneity in the museum and gallery space; and whose values and assumptions inform decision-making processes, whether for individual ancestor belongings and works of art in museums, or for entire monuments, historic sites, and cultural landscapes. The author proposes that museums, galleries, and related spaces remain relevant to Indigenous peoples only to the extent that they promote cultural continuity over mere preservation.
