Abstract

This paper measures the relative power of various predictors of success in library school defined by receipt of the M.L.S. degree and graduate grade point average. Data concerning applicants accepted to the Queens College Department of Library Science in 1972 were analyzed statistically. It was found that the year in which the student's undergraduate degree was received was both a good predictor of success and important in evaluating other indicators of the student's potential. For example, multiple regression analysis suggested that substantial undergraduate grade inflation should be taken into account when considering applicants. Likewise, for pre-1968 college graduates, the quantitative aptitude score of the Graduate Record Examination was a significant predictor of success.
