Abstract

IntroductionThe solar electromagnetic spectrum, fundamentally the ultraviolet radiation, impinges on the skin producing a series of deleterious effects in the short and long term. The intensity and type of these depends on the type of radiation and the factors that modify it (latitude, time of year, indirect radiation among others) and on the other hand, of the cutaneous phototype. ApplicationsPhotoprotection is the set of measures that try to reduce the negative effects of electromagnetic radiation. It can be natural and topical pharmacological or pharmacological systemic. The most used is organic and inorganic topical photoprotection, with a high sun protection factor. IndicationsPhotoprotection is indicated as a treatment in all photodermatosis regardless of its origin. In cases of low phototypes, children, receptors of aesthetic techniques, use of photosensitizing drugs and immunosuppressed patients, photoprotection is considered a primary prevention method, being secondary prevention in cases of photographed dermatoses and in cases of photoaging and skin cancer.
