Abstract

The jihadist movement in India, rather than being the result of a religious education or the influence of a fanatical group, is a reaction to the Indian state’s inadequacies in dealing with threats to and biases toward a Muslim minority. The Indian Mujahedeen terror group is the latest and most violent manifestation of the jihadist movement in India. The Indian mujahedeen are motivated primarily by the desire to exact revenge on perceived affronts by the Indian state in the face of atrocities against Muslims.
