Since then he has had lecturing spells at Oswestry Tertiary College and at Loughborough University of Technology. He attended London University, where he obtained an MEd in mathematics and science education, and Loughborough University, where he gained a PhD in probability concepts. Before his present position as senior lecturer in mathematical education at Loughborough University of Technology, he was Head of the Mathematics Department in an Essex comprehensive school, a research mathematician with the Marconi Company, and an assistant lecturer in a college of education. His main research interests are probability concepts and intuitions, and using computers in teaching. He has contributed to several books and has published articles in various journals.
