Abstract

In the past, many compensation-based solutions have been proposed to solve the maintenance query anomalies due to concurrent updates of data sources in data warehouse environments. Generally, they are required to send the extra queries to the data sources for compensating concurrency updates, which apparently increases the round-trip between the data warehouse and each data source, as well as the overhead of view maintenance. We propose an incremental view maintenance approach based on data source compensation called DSCM, which effectively overcomes the shortcomings of previous compensation solutions through minimizing the extent of compensation to the base relations of data sources and using the precise source states to evaluate the maintenance queries.
