Abstract

The physical features of fission pulse generation by a BARS-5 reactor in the “power” regime with a strong internal neutron source are described. It is shown that the pulse parameters are determined primarily by a rate of increase of reactivity, small errors in the calibration of the rods are negligible, safety in emergency situations, including those due to wrong or illegal actions taken by personnel, is ensured by physical factors which prevent the realization of the entire reactivity, introduced by the emergency, in a single pulse.
