Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to examine the effects of surface textures on the friction and wear performance of materials under different sliding conditions (dry, aqueous and oil). AISI 316 L samples with hexagonal, circle, square and rhombus geometries were produced using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) and non-textured samples were produced using casting and L-PBF. L-PBF samples showed high peak intensity due to rapid heating-cooling and small shifts in Bragg angles occurred. L-PBF samples had higher hardness than casting samples since they had a finer microstructure. Textured samples exhibited better tribological performance because they trapped wear debris. A higher friction was observed in samples with sharp corners due to stress concentrations. The highest tribological performance occurred in oil-lubricated conditions.
