Abstract

Remating frequency in a standard laboratory line of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), was 8.4%, which is within the range of values observed in field studies by other workers. In male-skewed and female-skewed lines it had increased to 42 and 37%, respectively. Female genotype was the significant factor in determining remating frequency. A possible role for high remating lines in sterile insect release programs against the Mediterranean fruit fly is discussed.
