Abstract

Nuclear dry mass of outer epidermal cells of onion leaf bases increased following exposure of previously protected tissue to the ambient atmosphere. After 48 h of exposure, average nuclear dry mass increased as much as 78 per cent over the initial value (newly exposed tissue). Nuclear area also increased after exposure. Wounding did not prevent nuclear dry mass increases, but did prevent significant changes in nuclear area.
