Abstract
White spot lesion has been related to the effect of orthodontic treatment, and also has been considered a global health problem. Its antiesthetic appearance and even more its cavitation, urge restorative procedures with the dentist. However, its incidence has not been reported in any orthodontic specialty in Mexico. The aim of this investigation was to report its incidence, at the Universidad Michoacana dental clinics, in Morelia, Michoacán, México. The lesion was diagnosed in 27 patients and multiple statistical analyzes were generated. The incidence increased significantly, in more than a half of the sample after 2 years of orthodontic treatment (p <0.05). There was no correlation of the lesion with age and gender. White spot incidence is high, and occurs within the orthodontic treatment period, which requires its control and prevention at the evaluated orthodontic clinics. It would be convenient to know its incidence, among other Mexican and worldwide universities for its eradication.
