Abstract

Background and Aims: Lipoprotein (a) [LP(a)] is a risk marker for Cardiovascular diseases. Elevated levels of LP(a) are pro-atherogenic and correspond to an increased risk of aortic valve stenosis. Twenty six percent of European population has LP(a) levels of more than 30 mg/dl and have a 3 fold higher risk of developing severe cardiovascular events among patients within 15 years of CABG. Incidence of elevated LP(a) in Pakistan population has not been analyzed.
