Abstract
The present study was carried out to assess the efficacy of yeast against nematode from both fruits and soil samples. Totally 12 native isolates were collected and they were screened against root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in vitro condition. All tested yeasts showed various effects on hatching and mortality of nematodes. Among the twelve isolates isolate 1 showed highest effect against hatching and mortalities compared to control. The culture filtrate from yeast isolate Y1, Y2 and Y8 significantly inhibited the egg hatching and increasing the juvenile mortality with the exposure periods from 48 to 96 hrs. Yeast isolates Y1 showed highest level of juvenile mortality 99% followed by isolate Y2 and Y8. In egg hatching, isolates Y1 and Y2 significantly reduced the hatching of juveniles to 98.5% and 97.9%, respectively followed by Y8 isolate. Thus yeast can be used as an effective biocontrol agent for the root knot nematode management.
