Abstract

To screen the anticancer potential of the extracts of five Hainan plants of Polyalthia, which are also China Li minority ethnic medicines. The ethanol roots extracts of Polyalthia laui andPolyalthia rumphii inhibited proliferation of the selected four tumor cell lines at dose of 20 and 200 μg/ml demonstrating potential antitumor activities. Furthermore, the chloroform fraction and petroleum ether fractions of P. rumphii and P. laui exhibited cytotoxic effects against the four tumor cell lines and the IC50 values ranged from 0.98 ± 0.3 μg/ml to 58.0 ± 3.5 μg/ml.
