Abstract
Cell cultures have been used extensively to study various aspects of lipid metabolism as they provide the simple but important model systems needed to understand various physiological and biochemical functions. Some of the characteristics of cultured cells and important contributions that have been derived from these cells in lipid and lipoprotein research are highlighted. In addition, the future use of cell cultures for various aspects of lipid metabolism is discussed.
