Abstract
The activities of Sch 27899 (Ziracin), erythromycin, and ofloxacin against 102 Legionella spp. isolates were measured by a microbroth dilution method. The MICs that inhibited 90% of strains tested were 0.25, 0.5, and 0.06 μg/mL for Sch 27899, erythromycin, and ofloxacin, respectively. The activity of Sch 27899 against intracellular Legionella pneumophila could not be determined because of complete inactivation of the drug by tissue culture medium components.
