Abstract

In this study, poly(ether imide)/amino functionalized silica (PEI/SiO2-NH2) mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were in-situ prepared. 3-Aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) and etraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) were used to in-situ form nano-silica particles in PEI matrix. PEI/SiO2-NH2 MMMs were further crosslinked with ethylene diamine (EDA). The obtained crosslinked PEI/SiO2-NH2 MMMs had good solvent resistance. Lysozyme (LZ) adsorption capacity had a maximum value at pH11 and adsorption equilibrium was achieved in 24h for both MMMs and crosslinked MMMs. The desorption reached an equilibrium when the concentration of NaCl solution was higher than 0.5M. MMMs had higher adsorption capacity than crosslinked MMMs at the fourth cycle of adsorption and desorption, while MMMs had low desorption from the first time to the fourth time. Crosslinked MMMs maintained 85% of its adsorption capacity and 74% of its desorption at the fourth cycle of adsorption and desorption. The results provided new insights for the purification and separation of enzyme or protein by MMMs with high recovery.
