Abstract
Este artigo propõe-se a analisar, com base no campo da Cultura Visual e na metodologia da análise serial de imagens, a produção do fotógrafo de origem francesa Pierre Verger. A análise recai sobre uma série de 6 imagens que mostra manifestações da cultura afro-brasileira existente na cidade de São Luís do Maranhão em 1948. Como resultado, observou-se a importância e polissemia da produção de Verger na valorização da “africanidade” enquanto herança cultural, especialmente em São Luís, considerando a construção histórica de estigmatização da cultura negra pelas elites locais.
