Abstract

Peter James (Pete) McNulty was born in 1941 and grew up in New York City where his parents, immigrants from Ireland, had settled. He attended St. Michaels High School and attributed his early interest in science to his high school physics classes. His older sister, also a scientist, had a strong influence as well. Pete received the B.S. degree in physics from Fordham University, Bronx, NY, USA, in 1962 and pursued graduate studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY-Buffalo), Buffalo, NY, USA, earning the Ph.D. degree in 1965. He remained at SUNY-Buffalo as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for an additional year, where he met his future wife, Pat. In 1966, Pete and Pat moved to Potsdam, NY, USA, where Pete took an Assistant Professor of Physics position at Clarkson University, eventually becoming a Professor of physics. During their time in the North Country, Pete and Pat raised their two children, Patty and Peter.
