Abstract

This memorial column pays tribute to Appiah “Amit” Amirtharajah, considered one of the foremost authorities in North America on coagulation and filtration. Amirtharajah was an emeritus professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and a senior consultant/principal technologist with the consulting firm CH2M HILL. A frequent contributor to (and reviewer for) JOURNAL AWWA, Amirtharajah specialized in water supply and public health research in the areas of coagulation, clarification, and filtration.
