Abstract
The article presents Professor Lech Mokrzecki who passed away in July 2021 and was an outstanding expert in the history of education, science and culture of the Old Polish period, a researcher of the history of science in Gdansk in the 16th–18th centuries, the intellectual and artistic culture of Royal Prussia and the early maritime knowledge in former Poland, as well as a researcher of the pre- partition history of historiography and the early history teaching in Poland and other European countries. The authors present his educational and professional path, with special emphasis placed on academic activity and the related achievements. The text also incorporates the Professor’s remarks; as a result, the readers can better understand his approach to the duties of an academic as a researcher, promoter, and a reviewer of the achievements of others.
