Abstract
Jim Widner was a bandleader, bassist, and Director of Jazz Studies in the University of Missouri-Saint Louis Department of Music. With decades of performing and teaching, he led the Jim Widner Big Band for 30 years. He was one of the founding members of the Jazz Education Network Conference and the Downbeat Magazine recipient of the 2009 Achievement Award. His success is remembered through what he taught his students and mentees.
