Abstract

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), in its weekly emailed summary of peer‐reviewed medical articles, includes what appears to be an advertisement for the Bridge Device, a tiny electrical signaling device that goes behind the ear and is supposed to reduce withdrawal symptoms. An open‐label study (in which patients knew that they were getting a device to reduce withdrawal symptoms) found that it did (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adaw.30904). We asked ASAM whether the notice on their free weekly email was a paid advertisement or an endorsement (or maybe both). They did not respond by press time.
