Abstract
Are you a perfectionist? If so, you have a lot in common with many professionals, including doctors, and you have a propensity for alcohol use disorder (AUD) because that's engraved in your personality, a new study has found. According to the study, some kinds of perfectionism play a role in the development of severe AUD. The study, conducted by researchers in Belgium, linked self‐oriented perfectionism (exaggerated performance standards placed on oneself), socially‐prescribed perfectionism (a perception of high expectations coming from other people), and other‐orientated perfectionism (setting unrealistically high standards for others), to vulnerability for severe AUD. The study was published in Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.
