Abstract

Even in Utah, not known for heavy drinking, alcohol sales are going up so much that there's a shortage. The problem is supply‐chain issues and staffing shortages, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune, which found that this Thanksgiving the state‐run stores had a record number of sales. According to the state's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, retail sales are up $13 million compared to this time last year. There is increased profitability, which the state is reporting as good news.
