Abstract
Impurity distributions across a magnesium condensate produced by sublimation have been determined experimentally. For most of the impurities, the distributions have a complex shape. The Mn and Ca distributions can be described by a distillation equation. The total impurity concentration in the magnesium condensate increases with increasing distance from the substrate. The average total content of all the impurities detected in the condensate is a factor of 3 lower and that of four specially monitored impurities (Fe, Ni, Cu, and Si) is almost a factor of 4 lower than the corresponding original level.
