Abstract

Vaccination in the pretransplantation phase is a key to improving the morbidity and mortality of solid organ transplant patients. A quality improvement project was undertaken to improve vaccine uptake among solid organ transplant candidates with the inclusion of a nurse practitioner-led infectious disease pretransplantation consultation service. Vaccination rates for coronavirus disease 2019, influenza, tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, zoster, pneumococcal pneumonia, and hepatitis A were higher compared with the national vaccination rates. Implementation of a nurse practitioner-led pretransplantation vaccination review and counseling service can result in improved vaccination rates if implemented at transplant centers.
