Abstract

This study aims to find out the strengths of the takhassus program learning design in improving the understanding of the kitab kuning study. This research uses a qualitative approach by using three data collection methods: observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis was done in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The informants in this study consisted of Caregivers, Ustadz, and Santri. The claim of this research is that the learning design developed by Pondok Pesantren Nurul Ilmi wal Fikri Tebuireng Jombang has its own characteristics in improving the understanding of the study of the kitab kuning. The distinctive features of this program design are the quality of teachers and the talaqqi method developed in a traditional pesantren manner. The takhasus reading kitab kuning program is a program in Islamic boarding schools which is only devoted to understanding and practicing the science of tools (nahwu shorof) in reading kitab kuning. This study concludes that the implementation of the kitab kuning takhasus program at the Nurul Ilmi Wal Fikri Jombang Islamic boarding school uses methods including discussion, sorogan, bandongan and sima'an. That is, the students are determined by the material from the book by the ustadz, then the students search and reading the kitab kuning
