Abstract

In this paper, two Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM) with two-layer configuration are investigated to analyze an efficient method to reduce torque ripple in multilayer SRMs. The method named Rotor Shifting Technique (RST) is simply shifting a rotor of one set respect to other set. In the proposed method the RST is used to increase the overlap between rotor and stator poles. One of the presented motors is 6/4 type and the other one is 8/4 type. The constructions and mathematical model of the two SRMs is presented at first. Then the rotor shifting is done on them and at the end, the SRMs operation is simulated by Finite Element Method (FEM) using Magnet CAD package to analyze the proposed method. The torque ripple and also flux linkage versus rotor angle curve, before and after the rotor shifting, is also presented to show the effect of the technique on the SRMs behavior.
