Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTI) account for more than 30% of all hospital acquired infections (HAI) and more than 80% of UTI infections are related to unnecessary indwelling urinary catheters. (CDC, 2009) The risk of UTI is also influenced by the duration of catheterization and limiting catheter use has been found to be an important factor in reducing UTI infection rates. (Stephan, 2006)
