Abstract

Purpose: Traditional hospital management focuses on stock control and orders system based on cost, time and image of hospital. Many patients cannot get effective treatment due to lack of quality in services and lack of medicines in healthcares. The main purpose of the article is to find reasons behind lack of efficiency in healthcare services in 8 big hospitals in the province of Erzurum. Design/methodology/approach: The method is used in this article to analyze the system of hospitals located in the province of Erzurum, eastern part of Turkey by asking open questions with some options. Forms were filled by top management of hospitals. Findings: It is found that they mainly depend on government policies and have low efficiency and high regulatory stock level. Moreover, there is a big bureaucracy in all operations found as the biggest obstacle behind lack of efficiency. Research limitations/implications: This work can be generalized by comparing hospitals in different part of Turkey.
