Abstract
This chapter portrays how education paves the way for improvement in the quality of life, by influencing the individual potential. Education can bring in possession of positive values, which in turn boosts apparent control on emotional and physical distress. Being educated means the person is wise enough to make use of the knowledge attained, for good cause and live judiciously with the environment. For this, the educational system needs to equip the learners with skills, values and competencies required for responsible and active global citizens. This chapter highlights how the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) can empower learners to assume active roles to face and resolve challenges and to become proactive contributors to a more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure world. It analyses how far the curricular practices related to GCED have influenced the socio-emotional competence (SEC) of school students. This helps in making the students ready to contribute to the society, by allowing them to apply many important values in life, thereby influencing the global well-being. This chapter puts forth the need to devise educational policies and implement curriculum framework that can enhance the SECs, which in turn, will improve one’s quality of life both objectively and subjectively.
