Abstract
This article will outline the context of the mental health need within children and young people (CYP) in relation to rising prevalence of common mental health difficulties and the widening treatment gap. The CYP mental health political context and ambitions will then be summarised. The key CYP workforce upskilling and expansion initiatives, including new roles will then be described, in addition to an exploration of key frameworks and systems of care to ensure effective use of the workforce and approaches that ensure equality, diversity and inclusion. Progress to date will be summarised along with an overview of potential next steps, including the ongoing role that psychologists have in supporting the ongoing upskilling and expansion.
