Abstract

Through mathematical calculation, SiC-Al2O3, Sialon, Sialon-SiC, SiC-ZrO2 and B4C-C non-oxide composites are synthesized by carbothermal reduction reactions from natural minerals, and they can be utilized as additives for refractories to improve slag corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. In addition, homogenous distributed fine grains can be obtained by using raw materials with small grains by carbothermal reduction reaction. The synthesized non-oxides can be easily dispersed in refractory matrix and the homogenous microstructure is favor to improve the properties of refractories.
