Abstract

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is still an attractive technique that achieves the higher data rate and helps even in spectrum sensing. However OFDM suffers from high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR). This has an impact on the autonomy of terminals; thus it is mandatory to handle the PAPR problem. In this technical paper we introduce the impact of two linear codes over Z4 on PAPR. In addition, we propose a new genetic algorithm (GA) based decoding to improve the quality of transmission in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER). It is concluded that, while the results confirm an important gain in terms of PAPR and BER when using channel coding, the GA based code outperforms the biased BCH (15, 7).
