Abstract

The paper treats with momentum based control algorithm based distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) for distribution system. The DSTATCOM is six-leg IGBT based voltage source converter (VSC) connected to point of common coupling (PCC) through zigzag-three single-phase through the filtering inductors. The six-leg VSC uses unipolar switching rather than bipolar switching, which has the advantage of doubling the switching frequency of a pulse width modulation voltage. The DSTATCOM operates at 10kHz switching frequency and the voltage ripples injected by the operation of DSTATCOM is suppressed by the RC ripple filter connected at the PCC. The estimation of reference source currents for DSTATCOM are acquired by using less complex momentum algorithm and credence’s are attuned in an self-regulating mode with diminution in computational time, enhances accuracy during adverse grid circumstances. The projected DSTATCOM can operate in unity power factor (UPF) mode, zero voltage regulation (ZVR) mode besides neutral current compensation, harmonic compensation and load balancing feeding linear/non-linear consumer loads. The momentum algorithm based DSTATCOM with distribution sytem is modeled and simulated in SIMULINK/MATLAB R2009a.
