Abstract

As the main interface for the interaction between user and temporal database, temporal query language determines temporal database’s functionality and its implementation details. Thus, the choice of query language is a decisive step for the design of a temporal database. Current theoretical results of temporal database include various types of temporal data models and query languages. Typical query languages include TempSQL, Tquel, TSQL2 and ATSQL2. The query language chosen by the processing component of the temporal data TempDB is the improved ATSQL2. To explain ATSQL2 language accurately, it is necessary to study its syntax and semantics. As ATSQL2 has its limitations, a detailed description of the improved ATSQL2 is proposed in this chapter.
