Abstract
Translationally cold BaCl+ has been confined in ion traps and vibrationally relaxed by means of sympathetic laser cooling. Determination of the internal temperature of the ion has been hampered by the lack of spectroscopic data for bound-bound transitions. A promising action spectroscopy scheme involves excitation of the 7–0 vibrational overtone transition, followed by UV photodissociation. The present study extends the vibrational characterization of 138Ba35Cl up to v+ = 7, providing improved vibrational constants.
