Abstract

The paper reports on the application of flux observer based sensorless control techniques to PM brushless AC motors. Current methods of speed estimation and their relative merits are assessed, both theoretically and experimentally, and an improved speed estimation method, which combines the best features of the average of the estimated rotor position differential and the ratio of the EMF to excitation flux-linkage, is proposed. Its performance is verified experimentally.
