Abstract
The use of partial demineralization in conjunction with a degasifier to strip resultant carbon dioxide is an efficient method to treat waters with high alkalinity-to-hardness ratios and low sodium content. Partial demineralization also results in a substantial reduction in waste solids. Critical design factors for the partial demineralization process include type of resin used and the proper balance of resin bed volume to flow rate. Significantly lower capital expenditures and operational savings realized from less frequent chemical regeneration make partial demineralization a very cost-effective technique for generating high-quality water for a majority of pretreatment washer requirements. It is important to note that depending on the quality required for the intended application, the preferred method of water purification may consist of any of the following treatment strategies: 1. 1. Partial demineralizer with DI system. 2. 2. Reverse osmosis system with DI system. 3. 3. Reverse osmosis system alone. 4. 4. Partial demineralizer alone.
