Abstract

Two methods are described for the detection of low concentrations of paraquat in biological fluids. A rapid spot test involves anin situ reaction on an SPE cartridge to form a vividly blue coloured radical ion. A quantitative method uses clean-up prior to oxidation to form the dipyridone derivative, which can be determined down to sub nanogram mL−1 levels using HPLC with fluorescence detection.
