Abstract

Real time estimation of Cell Loss Ratio (CLR), a key Quality of Service (QoS) parameter in ATM networks, is essential for proper network resources dimensioning, congestion control, bandwidth allocation, and routing. But many existing crisp statistical techniques are incapable of predicting real time CLR. The fuzzy logic system (FS) proposed in the literature is unable to predict accurate values of real time CLR. In this work, we propose a Modified Fuzzy Logic System (MFLS) to estimate real time CLR based on the samples obtained theoretically from a small system. The results of the proposed MFLS are validated with the theoretical and fuzzy system (FS) values for Geom/Geom/1/k model and self-similar model. It is found that, this approach, which considers modified membership function with appropriate correction factor, estimates accurate real time CLR values from the past history.
