Abstract

The Fruit Fly Optimization Algorithm (FOA) is an intelligent optimization algorithm inspired by the behavior of fruit flies using smell and vision for foraging. In this paper, we propose a new fruit fly algorithm called the tabu search fruit-fly optimization algorithm (TS-FOA), which includes a tabu table and an enhanced moving step length, to address the drawbacks of the FOA, such as the propensity to easily fall into local optimal solutions, restricted search domains, and repeated searching. The tabu search algorithm (TS) is used to increase the global search and local convergence capabilities of the TS-FOA. Arithmetic examples are also used to justify its viability and superiority. Finally, the overall practical prestress mode of the large opening elliptical cable dome is discovered using the TS-FOA. The outcome demonstrates that the TS-FOA is highly viable and efficient in the force-finding analysis of the cable dome structure and has a considerable optimization impact.
