Abstract
A study of the Balmer and Paschen series from n=8 to 13 for plasma regimes relevant to the magnetic fusion devices is carried out. For such conditions the main improvement that can be inferred from standard electron broadening theories is that the line profiles change from the impact to the static line shape. A method using a frequency dependent electron broadening operator is implemented in the line shape code based on the Frequency Fluctuation Model. The line shape code thus modified is used to synthesize the Balmer et Paschen series with the aim to improve diagnostics of electron density based on spectroscopy.
